The Archdiocese of Portland is dedicated to safeguarding the most vulnerable individuals in our parishes and schools including children, youth, and at-risk adults, through our screening and training of clergy, seminarians, employees and volunteers. In addition, we have safe environment education programs for parents, children and youth. It takes the work of all of us in the Archdiocese, parishes and schools to work toward the safety of our children, youth and vulnerable adults in our community.

The Archdiocese provides the mandated, VIRTUS® Teaching Safety – Empowering God’s Children program for training all our children in K-12 in our parish religious education classes and in our Catholic Schools. The VIRTUS® training is grade and age-appropriate. Archdiocesan educators train and retrain children every year in ways to help minors identify healthy and appropriate relationships.
