Statement on Recent Events at Central Catholic High School

The Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon, through the Office for the Mission of Catholic Education, has been in ongoing communication with the leadership of Central Catholic High School regarding the recent racist incident at the school. We continue to echo what Central Catholic has already stated: racist behavior is not condoned by the Catholic Church and does not reflect our values and Church teaching. Along with them, we condemn any form of racial insult or discrimination. We are appreciative and supportive of the school's continued efforts to address this matter with the utmost seriousness it merits, with sensitivity to the hurt present in the community, and with a faithful commitment to move forward toward healing and reconciliation.
